Welcome to Western Washington’s Cox Conserves Heroes Program

KIRO 7 is proud to partner with The Trust for Public Land to bring you Western Washington's Cox Conserves Heroes program. $20,000 will be donated to local nonprofits on behalf of the three finalists. The winner will be announced in September.

The 2016 finalists and their nonprofits of choice are:

  • Bill Hagen, Carkeek Watershed Community Action Project
  • Kortney Okura, Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust
  • Helen Hoenig, Connecting Kids to Nature Program, Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust

What is Cox Conserves Heroes?

Created in partnership with The Trust for Public Land, Cox Conserves Heroes recognizes local environmental volunteers and makes donations to local nonprofits on their behalf.

The program takes place in cities across the country. The public nominates volunteers using a brief online form. Next, a panel of local environmental leaders selects three finalists who are profiled on video. The public then watches the videos, gets inspired, and votes for their favorite.

It's our way of honoring the unsung heroes in our communities and supporting the organizations that matter to them.
