Welcome to Atlanta's Cox Conserves Heroes Program
Congratulations to John Gordon for being named Atlanta's 2013 Cox Conserves Hero. His nonprofit of choice, Friends of English Avenue, received $10,000.
The 2013 finalists' nonprofits of choice each received $2,500:
Channel 2 WSB-TV is proud to partner with The Trust for Public Land to present Cox Conserves Heroes. A total of $15,000 will be donated to local environmental nonprofits on behalf of the winner and finalists.
This is the 5th year the Cox Conserves Heroes program has taken place in Atlanta. Donna Shearer, Na'Taki Osborne-Jelks, Angel Poventud and Don Wells are previous recipients of Atlanta’s Cox Conserves Heroes award.
Created in partnership with The Trust for Public Land, Cox Conserves Heroes recognizes local environmental volunteers and makes donations to local nonprofits on their behalf.
The national program takes place in cities across the county. The public nominates volunteers using a brief online form. Next, a panel of local environmental leaders selects three finalists who are profiled on video. The public then watches the videos, gets inspired and votes for their favorite.
It's our way of honoring the unsung volunteers in our communities and supporting the organizations that matter to them.
